best bass cases/brands?

Sign in to disble this ad
hello,

i'm interested in buying a new hardshell case for my boyfriend for xmas. his is pretty beat up from touring (even though he has a few). they are all the fender tweed case with the orangeish (poodle style i think its called?) lining. i am not sure if he is beholden to these because it is a classic style from a classic brand or if it is because it is the highest quality.

i'd like to get him something that breaks away from that model, not only in terms of color but style and yet would still be an equally excellent, durable case.

can anyone make a recommendation? or at least name a few brands that are the best?

is gator a good brand?

also, as far as the type of bass going into it, i think either one that will hold a jazz bass or a p bass would be the best since he has both of those.

i am also wondering if the cases dubbed 'universal' are as safe and protective as the ones built to hold a few specific models?

if the case he is already using are the best, i'd like to know that too. i dont want to buy anything he wouldnt want to use instead of the cases he already has.

sorry i am so clueless! thanks for all your help!

Try this one. I just purchased one of these to replace my original form-fitted Sadowsky case. In fact, this one is identical to the cases Sadowsky is now selling for $120.00 plus shipping. $69.99 and free shipping.

Whew... I am glad I got to this before anyone else made the joke: What kind of case do you put a boyfriend in?

Sorry I have nothing constructive to add to the discussion. None of my basses have hard cases yet.

I can vote for the type of case that Ernie Ball uses. Mine went flying out at 60 MPH (not kidding) and only the lock got messed up.

I really like the fender molded cases for jazz/p basses. They fit the bass like a glove and aren't as bulky as the big rectangle cases.

This one-

yep, Gator is a good brand. Their GL series of cases (light flight cases) are really good. Light weight, as mentioned, and will handle all kinds of abuse. The foam they use for the cases is very rugged and the outside doesn't have the typical "SKB" hardshell that does work but usually starts to crack and break apart within 6months of any kind of heavy touring.(still being functional, just beat up is all)

I have a Gator Case, and I'm really happy with it. It's sturdy and can take a beating. I've done a lot of touring (gigs/practice at different locations every week) for two years with mine, and it still looks brand new.

Here's a link to the case on gators page. http://www.gatorcases.com/productsmo...2&PID=7&MID=27

Out of the Gator Cases I would recommend this one for anyone who is touring fairly seriously. http://www.gatorcases.com/productsmo...2&PID=5&MID=44 I'm not sure how much it costs. I didn't see that on the page yet.

Ah. Found it. It's about $130. Not bad for what you get.
