I looking to subscribe, but I haven't been able to get my hands on any of them. Plus I love reading about my interests.
Thanks

| | | | I really enjoy "Bassplayer", however, when I try to order it on my computer, it tells me that I am entering an "unsecured site", etc. I'd rather order it and pay $1+ an issue instead of $5 something at the news stand, but I'm not about to compromise credit card info. Any ideas? |

| | Losing faith in humanity...one call at a time. | | Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Higley, AZ | | | I subscribe to Bass Player, but only because I need something to flip through on the throne. Since they s***-canned Bill Leigh (and some of the other veteran writers left), though, I think it's gotten way lame. Now, it's formatted like People Magazine or Us, and it's only 10 or 12 pages.
Getting some of the back issues through the classifieds here, it was much better in years past. It was thicker, better organized, and more informative. For example, the Woodshed section was divided into beginner/intermediate/expert lessons. I loved doing the intermediate ones with ease and thinking I was a badass...until I did an expert and realized I was not. There were more gear reviews, and better detail and photos, too.
Oh well, I guess economics killed that buzz, too |

Do a search, you can find back issues online, I love it for the in depth reviews. My only complaint is that it doesn't come out often enough, but Tom is only one guy right?

I do wish it came out more often, but TB certainly tides me over between issues.

This truly is a labor of love right now and we're really hoping it blossoms into much more than that, and especially in light of some nice changes recently, we've got an excellent chance at it. I'm excited to be a part of it. |

Bass Gear Magazine actually has about a dozen regular contributors, so (lucky for you all!) it's more than just me. I am super proud of the staff we have on board, which includes the likes of TB's own Vic and Chef, plus industry veterans like Ed Friedland and Terry Buddingh. I do hear you on the frequency of our issues. Believe me, I'd like to get it out more frequently, but we've been through a number of growing pains. Each one has served to make us better, I hope (such as revising and expanding our bench testing procedures, and investing an additional $18-20,000 in test equipment, above and beyond our initial non-trivial purchases). We have recently moved to a different graphic design guy, who happens to be from my home town and is in the process of moving back to town (which is currently serving to add some delay, but once he's back and established here, I think that this should allow us to put things out much, much more quickly).
In addition to the online/print magazine, we also put out the Bass Gear Weekly, which is not always a weekly event, but I am trying to make it a more regular occurrence. Anyone signed up for our free digital magazine subscription should also receive the e-mail links to the Weekly when it goes out.
Vic is right, in that this is a big-time labor of love, and he'd also be right if he said that I am a bit anal about holding things up if I know that we are about to revise one of our bench tests (which might mean having to redo prior tests, if the new tests are giving different results from the old tests), or if we need to reshoot some photos, or whatnot. Everyone involved is really putting a lot into this - and I can't thank them enough! - so we all want to put out the best product that we can. Putting it out quickly is a challenge in and of itself, but once we get past this latest "hurdle," I really do think we'll be in a good position to pick up the pace.
Thanks again!
Tom. |

I read both the interweb copy and the hard copy, once it gets here...

U.K's Bass Guitar reminds me of what Bass player was back in the day...

Mine would focus on players from the genres of rock and country, hence the name. It would be interviews from bassists in these genres. Ask Flea what he really used on the early RHCP albums and such. I'd also like them to show the correct lines instead of using the often mistake laiden tab. But I don't know how much this endeavor would cost or if there is any money to be made.
