I see this all the time. It is a meaningless statement in the absence of at least a partial list of all basses one has played, for comparison's sake.
If you played only a Squier Affinity P and a Samick of one sort or another, then that Mexican Fender Jazz bass is probably the best bass you've ever played.
So how about it? When you use the phrase, would you please list a few other basses you've played so we know whether to run out and buy the best bass you've ever played?
BTW, this also applies to amps, cabs, distortion pedals and the like.

For instance, I've played three different Fodera's, and each one I disliked both in feel and tone (minus the Emperor. That thing was pretty cool!). That's blasphemy for some people, but for me I prefer the feel of mass produced basses likes StingRays and Precisions.
If someone says a certain bass or brand is the best they've ever played then you should say, 'good for you' and move on. |

I also prefer the sound of my Emperor to the single-cut Fodera's I've played. But that's not the point. I want to know against what basses they're comparing.
So you handle the "good for you," but I'm going to ask.
Trolololo.

Someone gets their next bass and are lyrical up to the nth degree about this bass as it's better than the earlier one they had. Five stars! Until they get their hands on the next bass.
It is usually dangerous to start something like 'this is the best bass I ever played' as the mind gets easily tired and wants some other stimulation later. |

The best bass I've ever played was a btb 6-string but I hated the feel of 6 strings...

My current one (ATK305) is my current sweetheart it's got a good bridge, killer pickup, super stable tuners, and a nice weight.
Now would I call it the best bass I ever played? Maybe.
The best bass I ever owned? Defianetly.

I've saidxthat in reference to my '08 MIA Jazz, and all I mean when I say it's the bestr bass I've ever played, that's all it means, key words there being "I've ever played", nothing more, nothing less. It's entirely possible there is a better bass out there somewhere, but until I play it, I won't really have any way to know that. If one should choose to read into my statement that I'm saying it's the best bass period, then that's your (mistaken) interpretation that's at fault, not my statement.

Just play what you've got. |

As stated elsewhere just look in TB Classifieds.
Good thread tho! |

I guess the main problem is the word "best" versus "favorite". I tend to use the words interchangeably and honestly shouldn't. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
