Best Bass line?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I know I'm new to TalkBass so I'll probably get a load of "HEW YA NOOB" comments but anyway I was wondering what everyone thinks the best bass line is I know it's a topic that has probably been answered in loads of other threads, but I would like to know what the best CLEAN, preferably (although not essential) SLAP bass line is that sounds awesome when it's SOLO Thanks guys,
ZetaBassist

"HEW YA NOOB" ! But seriously, we were all noobs at one time or another, so I'll cut you some slack (don't know about anyone else, though). So many great bass lines to choose from, I'll get the ball rolling by saying I like Paul McCartney's bass line in I Saw Her Standing There. A classic rock and roll bassline, it also works good in a lot of other songs of the same genre.

Anything by Zander Zon is just wow ... if there is more musician like him, music would be less boring.

With the caveat that the very idea of a single "best" bassline is nonsensical:

I think Paul on With A Little Help From My Friends is a great demonstration of a bunch of bass virtues:

- Fairly simple
- Melodious and tuneful to the max
- while still anchoring the harmony with all the necessary chord roots
- Creatively develops, verse by verse
- Never gets in the way of the overall song, yet adds so much

:^) !

I also like that he's not flashy, and that any intermediate player could learn to play his lines.

And for those who do that, it's like free higher education.
