Of course, the majority of the Eagles' catalog came out before I was born, so my opinion may be a bit skewed, but I love that album.

Their career is long enough to span across recording technologies and evolution. A lot of their early stuff is really ground breaking for the time but the later stuff is arguably better engineered if only because of the technology available.
An amazing show if you ever get the chance...pay extra for the seats up front by the PA. It helps to drown out the 15,000 or so back up singers. |

When I bought it back in early '80, it blew my mind. The title track, "Heartache Tonight" (a BIG radio hit here which made me scream every time I heard it) and "I Can't Tell You Why" worth the admission price alone. The double LP "Eagles Live" is a great document. I specially like to hear their exquisite vocal work live ("Seven Bridges Road" is an obligated reference here). BTW, I think their "Eagles: Their Greatest Hits, 1971–1975" compilation still flaunts the title of "The Recording Industry Association of America's top-selling album of all time". |
