I tried to find this thread and couldn't so if it is done, which it probably has please give me the link.
What is the best line you have ever heard in a song? Not full song lyrics but one line that stands out.
One of mine would have to be from Tom Waits' A Little Drop Of Poison
"Did the devil make to world while god was sleeping"
Not the best line ever but my favorite i could think of on the spot.
Marilyn Manson has just about no bad lyrics, I like the lyrics Arctic Monkeys do.
The best line in a comedic sense in a non-comedy song would have to be "Do you think Adam fancied Eve? but what if Eve could not conceive and Adam had to breed with Steve? We'd all be gay." - Robbie Williams, Secret song at the end of Nan's song |

But at the moment, I really dig the opening line to Snow Patrols' "Hands Open":
"It's hard to argue when, you won't stop making sense".

"Life was too real until you got there."
sure, it's about booze. but the whole song, and specifically that lyric, could be used to describe anything: a girl, a bass, a song, a god, an A/C unit in the midst of a sweltering summer heat wave... anything that can help you forget about life for a moment.

Sting is high up on the list too, as well as Steely Dan. They're all pretty different so it's it's hard to choose a single one as the best. But the one I first mentioned is very high up on the list, still trying to figure out what it's all about. It leaves a lot to the imagination to find out.
