Best mp3 player for stage

I need an mp3 player for the following:
  • Play in-between set music
  • Play sound effects tracks I have custom designed
  • Play intro music for sets and songs we do
  • Play sections of songs for rehearsal
One of the most important features I need is ease of use. I need to call songs up quickly. I would prefer to have it plugged in to power while I use it, so I don't have to worry about whether the battery is charged enough for a whole show.

I don't need video. I don't need a lot of extras. I need a very reliable and easy to use mp3 player that I can count on.

Any suggestions?

Please be as elaborate as you can in your descriptions, if possible.

Thank you.

Any laptop or ipod can satisfy requirements 1 and 4.
I think you need a sampler like a Roland SP 404 for reliable sound effects and cues.

Right now, I'm using an mp3 player for my sound effects. It works pretty well, but I don't like how long I have to spend getting to my track, and in the case of one mp3 player, it takes a minute to power up, and you can't use it while it's charging. Dumbest feature ever.

I want to use a BETTER mp3 player, that perhaps is a little more user-friendly. I cue all the sound effects simply by pressing "play" on the track I have made, and then all we have to do is play the song at the right tempo, and the sound effects fall where they are supposed to. That keeps us tight, and I like it. So I don't want to drop a lot of money on a sampler, when I don't necessary need it.

This is just one option I am exploring. I'm wondering if anyone has an mp3 player that happens to work really well, and cues up the songs fairly quickly.

Especially that I can plug it into the power source while using it.

Anybody?

Not sure exactly what you need, but I have a Digitech Jamman looper that I use for samples. Extra footswitch to jump between different samples. Might work for what you need it for.....I think you can put some pretty long samples on there. It also has a 1/8" input that I plug my iPod into.
