for me... a Used audere preamp for $100usd. This thing kills, low z-mode ftw
a used Ibanez pd-7 for usd$30. One of the best distortion pedals Ive tried, I even use it for guitar... I swear if this thing was under a different brand and is 'discontinued' or 'vintage' it would cost several hundreds.
lastly, a used milkbox for usd$40. One of the best compressors ive tried(ive tried several, including the more branded ones) |

Friedland books, etc ... are all a tremendous investment ... tastes in eqpt change, and gear moves on ... however, the knowledge you acquire may fade, but it is always there to go back and draw from ... |

Probably my EBMM StingRay. It was my first 'good' bass and it was my muse to play music for over 4 solid years when I was just getting started - we're talking about practicing for for 6+ hours a day, easily. It'll always be my favorite, even though it's currently not my #1. |

| | | For me it's the time invested into practicing.
That and my used modulus Q5 for $1400 courtesy of a local music store

Bought a SR5 (used) for an extremely talented young kid. He's gigging like crazy right now. Can read darn near anything. He's real real good!
Donated to a fellow TB'r after his gear was ripped off.
Folks at TB have been good to me and you need to give back. That's been my best investment

| | | | A good acoustic guitar. Seriously, everything else derives from a good acoustic guitar and learning at least a few chords to accompany people. There will be times when electricity is not available, when space is not available, when the gig does not lend itself to a full rig of any kind, but having a good acoustic guitar is always an asset. |
