So the story goes...I was playing bass a lot in town. Then moved city's three hours away to take a better job. Had no place to play. Sold my bass and bought down to a MIM Fender Jazz Bass to practice on around the house.
Now a year and a half later I have more than enough places to play with no cash on hand for another upgrade.
Any suggestions on who has a good rate of approving credit for musicians or any pointers of anyone being the same situation? |

Don't go in to debt for a bass. Use what you have until you save up some cash from gigs to fund another bass.

Basic MIM Fender should do for just about any gig. If you're going to worry about credit, go in hock for a decent amp. The Fender should do 'ya just fine for a basic bass, that does just about everything well.

Put some new strings and a set up on it and it'll play like a brand new bass. Then save back the money for the upgrade.... |

In the meantime, get it professionally set up and it will play like a dream. My MIM jazz bass sound as good if not better than the MIA jazz bass. No debt no sweat..... |

I don't mean just having the cash on hand at that moment, but being able to buy it without betting on the best possible personal financial situation for the foreseeable future.
It kills me to see a bunch of 1-3 month-old basses get sold here at big losses because people thought maybe a hundred bucks was a sufficient emergency fund.

My 2000 MIM Jazz sounds every bit as good as my '63 P...just a bit different. Your MIM P is plenty good to work with.

If your MIM plays fine already, just slap some new p-up's in there and you just turned a good bass into a great one for about $100 or so. I tend to be an active bass kinda guy myself, but you can do some serious damage in any genre with a MIM J-bass and a decent amp.

You can become SWAMPED in interest debt in a matter of months/weeks/however your plan will work, and all the while you have a perfectly serviceable bass waiting to be gigged
