Uplift Mofo Party Plan.

no doubt. indesputable.

You know, when they weren't trying to take themselves seriously...

Mother's Milk is where they jumped tha shark, tho I still enjoy it. Downhill from there, mos' def.
BSSM had its moments, but was RIFE with identity crisis. Am I serious? Am I kooky? ugh. Keidis, stop trying to sing.

BSSM and One Hot Minute contain my favorite songs for the most part.

One Hot Minute is my favorite. I know a lot of people don't like it but I'm a big Dave Navarro fan so him and Flea together was something that I'd always hoped would happen.

While I do like Uplift Mofo a lot, BSSM had the best songs and the best production in my opinion. Besides the furious fatness of Flea's Wal, I also dug the sound of Chad's drums a lot, it's the best recorded sound he ever had, in my opinon.

Now that I've read your first post again, from a bass player's perspective, I kind of feel Mother's Milk contains his trickiest lines, although I don't dig it at all as an album for some reason.

I know i'll probably get flamed for this but i actually like californication by the way and stadium arcadium best. I think fruciante is the best and his guitar just works so well with the bass and even though it isn't super fast slap and super funk it is a bunch of nice cool grooves that just sound good.

One of my two bands is my old covers/originals band which has reformed to be a Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute band. A bit of an odd deal for me as I like RHCP but wouldn't rank them as one of my favorite bands. But on the whole it's a lot more fun than playing the majority of our previous setlist, especially from a bass perspective.

That said, my favorite album is BSSM without question. But in terms of funky bass playing, Freaky Styley should get a mention too. Brother's Cup, Nevermind, Jungle Man and American Ghost Dance are classic Flea funk, not to mention Sly and Meters covers in If You Want Me To Stay and Hollywood. Plus Blackeyed Blonde is a workout.

everything from mother's milk onwards is great in their own respect.

the really old stuff is a bit weird sometimes, but there are great songs there too.

Best Flea tone/grooves/production: BSSM.

Best record: Uplift Mofo Party Plan, hands down don't bother to even ask the question. They matured with BSSM, but I don't see that as a good thing.

The true freaky deaky peppers died with Hillel, man I miss him!
