my 2pworth....
Probably, any video cam will do that you can get a good deal on. I assume you have audio recording kit so you need to go for visual rather than audio features in your cam...
All you want to do is film yourself so make sure it is one that will work in the environment you are going to be filming in. You can get low light ones now that work indoors....
You will need a tripod, a permenant assistant or some other means of positioning and manouverering your cam. I would go for a tripod but you might be able to use a mic stand.
If you are short of money get one that's going to work with the other kit you have, ie has suitable sockets to port the video to your PC....
What are you going to film? |

Unlike most inexpensive video recorders, they have some features that are specifically designed for music recording, like being able to set the mic gain level, and they have good stereo microphones.
Here's a clip of my band recorded live with the Q3HD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZ09VQXzHA4 |

My iPhone has as good or better video/audio recording capabilities of pretty much anything else I've seen under $200. Not that I'm saying any phone is good for this purpose, just that most cameras in this price range aren't very good (Flip, i'm talking about you). |

It's cheap. It does a great job. It's HD so you'll never have to regret not getting HD. The sound quality is unbeatable. It's easy to use. It's small. It's light. It's pretty much unbeatable right now, especially if you're recording music. I researched a bunch of recorders and the zoom is what I wound up buying. No regrets. |

Good luck. |

Good luck. | Video is ok but you have no control over the audio. Horrible results when I tried to record live performances with a Flip. Without even using one I can guarantee those Zooms will be better for this purpose. |

($179.00) Video quality is very good, although admittedly lacking in stability for handheld. http://store.kodak.com/store/ekconsu...ctID.156585900

We just put it on a microphone stand a fair distance away from the stage. We also record the audio with the Zoom H2 as a backup and edit that sound with the Flip video if the audio from the Flip turns out to be bad.
No doubt the Zoom will be a lot better. It's specifically designed for live performances. In fact, I might just pick one up now. I was just giving the OP an option in his price range. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
