Has implies now so I'll say Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust!

Runner up goes to Maynard James Keenan of Tool.

But if the question retroactive I'd say Chris Cornell, or Geoff Tate of Queensryche if you don't think Soundgarden is metal. Neither sings nearly as well as they used to - not bagging on them, it's just true.

I feel like a young punk, because I don't consider any of those bands "Metal." I would have to say Dallas Taylor from classic Underoath (their metal days).

I don't know who it is, but they aren't on this list. Mustaine has the most unique though.

My vote for best/favorite has to go to Devin Townsend. The guy not only has a powerful singing voice, but his screams are the absolute most awe-inspiring things I've ever heard. And with each album he does, he explores new avenues towards utilizing his voice and his many other talents.

Hevy Devy for the win! The guy is a genius mad scientist and a musical force to be reckoned with. His voice knocks me on my keister every time.

Dio is the best on that list easy.

But for the best metal vocalist today I would have to say Warrel Dane of Nevermore. He's AMAZING!!!!!

Dickinson and Halford are THE metal singers in my book. I don't consider AC/DC to be metal, more hard rock. Bon Scott is right behind Daltrey and as the best voice in hard rock, IMHO.

Ozzy's voice is really one dimensional to me, not to mention he can't even sing anymore. Dio is good too though.

Out of those - Bruce Dickenson and Dave Mustaine
Anders Friden of In Flames, Jason Wisdom of Becoming the Archetype, Howard Jones from KsE, Phil Labonte of All that Remains... more of the modern bands. These are just a few, I'm torn to pick a 'best'. usually though someone with a nice growl and a lot of power and intensity, but who can also actually sing sometimes.

I've seen some others on the list blow it live... anyone can sound good in the studio.

I really, really like John Bush's work with Anthrax. Great metal vocalist. There are definitely better singers out there, but for metal, John Bush.

I almost wrote in Devin Townsend, but he spends more time growling and screaming than singing. The man can sing well, though.
