Best way to pack a bass for shipping?

Any tips on packing a bass? Short of going to the UPS store and paying 50 bucks for peanuts, bubble wrap, and a box I am not sure how to go about it.
Is there really a price difference in using a UPS drop off (the UPS store) and taking it straight to the UPS distribution center? I thought the UPS store just made there money on packing materials. Do they add a fee to the shipping too?

They don't add a fee when you drop off. "Double box" the bass. To get free boxes, go to GC and ask them. They usually have a ton of boxes that they need to throw away.

See if they'll throw in the internal packaging that came in the box as well. If it was good enough for Fender to ship their stuff in then .....
