Best way to wrap cable around strap?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've seen many pros do this, but when I do it, it sucks.

I know there are how-tos for wrapping cables generally, but I couldn't find any for this topic.

I apologize if this question might as well be about tying one's shoes.

I don't "wrap", but I do run the cable between the bass and the strap - from the back of the bass, between the bass and strap, around into the jack.

That's all I do. It never pulls out.

I prefer wireless, but when I did use a cord I ran it THROUGH the strap " buckle" then to the bass.

I always run mine from the back, through the loop in the strap, and out of the front.

Yep. But leave a little slack where it goes into the output jack.

Huh. Well that's what I've been doing rather than the awful cable-wrapping. Sometimes it still gets in the way, though.

Hi.

Just like the sharp looking gentleman in the pic. No slack needed if using angled (the best, IMHO) plugs.

An added benefit is that if You change the bass, mute, grab the plug off with your fingering hand, swing the bass off your shoulder with your fretting hand, put it in the rack, take the next bass from the rack again with your fretting hand, swing the strap over your shoulder, plug the cord back to the jack, unmute. Takes about 5 seconds if You're fast, 15 if you're slow. In any case surprizes the heck out of everyone, especially the guitarist who somehow notices that he has to change the guitar too and it takes about a minute and a half while the singer is giving him the looks and some lip. True story.

Regards
Sam

FWIW, I usually do what everyone else does (between bass and strap) for practicing and rehearsals.

For gigs, I do the same thig, but add an extra loop - it "catches" the cable in case I ever step on it. No pressure on the jack that way!
