I'm going to assume the transmitter runs on a 9V

How long does the battery last? After I get a new bass im going to take the $200 or so from christmas and buy an X2 wireless

I use the X2 rackmount and really like it. Like someone else said earlier, make sure that you get the upgraded cable for the transmitter. Mine works flawless and sounds great. If I use a good alkaline battery (Everyready or Duracell) I can get 1 to 1 1/2 four hour shows out of it.

That sounds about right. I can get about 6 hours with a Duracell, less with a no-name battery.

WRONG! Any wireless they sell now will not be in the 700-800 Mhz range that will be restricted. Even my three older Shure units are in the 600 Mhz range.

To answer the OP's question, you want to look for a unit that will go down to 25 hz. The Shure ULXS and ULXP units fall in that category. I think the X2 digital units may even go down to 10 hz. They get a lot of good press around here for sound quality, but they may be slightly fragile.

Thumbs up X2

Probably the coolest bang for your buck you'll ever have. I can't remember whether it was Father's Day, or a Birthday, or Christmas, but I love mine. I get a party-size brick of 9Vs at Coscto and don't sweat the battery use. When they're spent, I lob another one in.

I'm not a performing artist, but when I'm practicing, recording, or rehearsing, it's great to eliminate the trip hazard/tether. Zero sonic loss to my ears compared to a cable, using the same bass and rig. Best of all, it's lower response limit is all the way down to 10 Hz, so it can nicely handle the five-banger...

For the people in Europe I would suggest the Line 6 Relay G30, I just bought it and I really love it, awesome sound (altough I didn't heard any change in the sound with the "cable tone" feature, but I guess this is more useful for guitarists)

The X2 line IMO is going away to be replaced with "World" approved Line 6 G30. I have one on order with Sam Ash which I am told will be shipping in January. The G30 operates on 2.4 mHz frequency and has received good reviews in Europe. Hopefully I will have mine soon to give a review.

X2 ,will it work for me?

From what I have read, anything that operates on 2.4 GHZ may be subject to new FCC laws when they decide to start using that frequency, so the X2 looks like a good choice in that respect. The thing I want to know about the X2 is how it works with basses with active electronics. Does it have a regular 1/4" plug or is it a TRS that plucs into the bass? How well does it work with a 5 string? I know with all my basses with active electronics, they don't work with my ampified headphones because of the TRS (stereo) plug.

I use my X2 about 75% of the time...including with my Jazz V, which has an Audere preamp. No problems whatsoever...well...other than battery life. I get about 10-12 hours with an Energizer Plus (or whatever they market now). It uses a regular 1/4" plug, which I had to replace because it shorted after being tugged on too much (kinda because it's not a 90°). Good news is Line6 sent me a new one post haste. If I ever lose it, I'd buy another without hesitation.

Hey guys. I know this thread is older, but I'm looking at purchasing a new wireless unit. I have an old Nady one lying around which worked in its day (I got it probably more than ten years ago), but I'm looking for something better now. Any recommendations for something current? Not worried about huge distances...main concern is sound quality and being able to move around the bars and other places we play. Thanks.

Looks like a possibility. The price is certainly right. Any comments on the durability and sound quality from anyone?

I mentioned in my earlier post that I'm happy with my X2 (now Line6), but I did not mention frequency response. The low E is 41 Hz and the low B is 31. Some wireless set-ups are designed for guitar, so be sure the one you choose can handle the lowest freq you use.

They have a basic model, an upgrade, and a rack-mount. All three have a freq range of 10Hz-20kHz.

There's a review in Bass Player magazine here (they changed the name to Relay when Line6 bought them out):

The two systems listed for the US are within the frequency range that is banned - 698 to 806 mHz. So that appears to be a no go. Also, I wouldn't get it because the low frequency response is listed as 80Hz - that's not at all great for bass.

Per the above, I'd look elsewhere if nothing else because of the frequency response. My recommendation would be any of the Line 6 G series units. I have the G30 and it has performed flawlessly. I'd give 'um a look.

Did not know that about the transmitter frequencies in the US.
And I've used it live allot, never had any problems with the frequency response (neither did a professional bass and double bass player i know)
