I used to make my own cables, with good wires and Neutrik connectors. I just bought some planet waves cables. Great quality, more expensive than most, but not repairable.
What are your good quality brands : Monster, Planet waves, etc...

I stay away from gold-plated plugs, too.

As long as the construction is sound, I'll use any cable. Lately I've been making my own with Mogami cable and Neutrik connectors. I can make a suh-wheet cable for about $20 that will probably last forever barring it getting cut in half. |

I like the Gepco cable and Neutrik and G&H ends. |

I'm currently using the California Cables by Fender that are super cheap at AMS. They just totally MAKE my bass tone, and by that, I mean they make the bass tone come out of the bass into the amplifier. |

I've heard that Monster's have a little larger end that spreads your contacts and then if you use anything else afterwards, they don't connect well. I know a guitar player that I respect and he had to have his guitar contacts replaced after using Monster cables because nothing else wouldwork because of the spread. Bummer!

Just got 5 this past week (4 mic and 1 instrument). Great build, quality materials and Butch was super fast and nice to deal with. Cables showed up at my door in 3 working days.
From a friend who works in sound tech, "Canare StarQuad is the Sh*znit for mic cables".
