Beyonce's Put a Ring on it

I know at least some of you have heard this, but has anyone tried to take down what's going on with form/harmony? I haven't gone through and tried to break it down, but it seems bizarre. I can't even imagine sitting down and coming up with that kind of sound, it's so out there. Especially when the vocals stack up in thirds, and I think I know where the harmony is going, but then the synth parts come in, and it's like "where did we go?"

I think pop stuff in the dance/urban vein is one of the least defined froms right now in terms of melody and harmony-I mean clearly there is lots of similarities in rhythm and lyric content, but the stuff going on otherwise seems wide open-the string parts from Britney's "Toxic" anyone?

eh? eh?

It's a pretty weird song overall. I have no idea how pop music got so out there.

It's interestng w/ cool production, and certainly catchy, but I am not a fan. But I hear it often as my Daughter loves it (I had to buy it for her on iTunes) and can respect it as one of the *better* disposable club songs...the whole melody is vocal driven, so it could go wherever Beyonce wanted it to...the only other thing is that arpeggiating videogame sound....

Well there are actually some pads that come in at the "hook" I'm not sure it's really a full chorus. That's where things get really weird. I really need to take it apart, which probably wouldn't take long and would no doubt reveal a pretty simple idea. I don't think Beyonce just sang whatever came into her head, I mean there is at least a base key and melodic themes that come back again and again. Weird stuff. I really like it.

Not complex, but certainly creative. That's my take. You can get it if you break it down, and I don't think you'll find it to be too difficult to work out.

It reminds me of my guilty pleasure - Alicia Keys' "I Need You." I really, really like this song. Youtube of her singing the song on "Dancing With The Stars." Not the typical rock and roll chordings or structure, but still very, very creative and infectious, and also not very complex.

I admit I like the music to the song, Beyonce is a terrible singer though in my opinion.

Wow. Exclusive of the pap she is releasing these days, she is hardly a terrible singer.

She's a great singer IMO but I don't care for her music esp this song. The chicks around here don't anymore songs to go around mindlessly chanting like this.
