Big Wide Soft Straps

I notice that even big dudes wear some means of spreading the weight. Marcus has a big sheepskin pad.

It wouldn't surprise me that this has been covered several hundred times in the past. Point me in the right direction and I'll submit to scolding.

I'm a dinky dude. Pencil neck you know? 140lbs of pure gristle, but fragile in my old age. I bought the Mikro with no intention of ever getting a heavy bass and then this Alembic came along. Well you can guess the rest.

Sadowsky makes the neoprene sandwich 3.875" for $150. I like Levy's for my guitars but they make so many I'm not sure they make padded. The bass weighs 9.5lbs +/-. Really about a pound more than an old Les Paul.

I'd like to hear a variety of opinions.....even bad ones.

Hey. maybe this one eh? http://cgi.ebay.com/Levys-Black-4-1-...#ht_2019wt_754

Thanks in advance
Dan

A lot of folks on here (myself included) swear by the Pro Comfort Strapps. I have about 6 of them, and use them on all my basses but one. And the strap on the other one is strictly for aesthetics.

But one of the guitar players in our band plays a Gibson Les Paul, and always used to complain about the weight. (Like yourself, he's not a big guy.) I let him try out my bass with a Comfort Strapp and he immediately bought one just like mine for the Les Paul.

+1 on the Neo Straps. I've been using one for 6 years with no issues whatsoever. They are very comfortable straps.

Comfort Strapp, I've played many a 4hr bar gigs with a 6 string bass without any back/shoulder pain. Before the Comfort Strapp, even playing 4hr gigs with my light 4 string bass was hurting my shoulder.

Isn't the Sadowsky strap $40?

I have one strap I like better than everything else; its a Blue Note strap, DX-GTR3, deluxe extra-wide, 3" web and 5 1/2" pad. I'd love to get 2 more, but I haven't been able to locate another since buying mine in a local music store about 15 years ago.

I think I misspoke. The Alembic is that much. Of course.

If you want a leather one, Moody makes the best and most comfortable and Italia also makes a great strap (I have two).

I use this one almost exclusively. Very Comfy.

It also comes in an extended length version which is the one I have.

+1,000.

I had Comfort Strapps (and they are great straps!) but they never seemed to fit me right. I bought one of these and my strap-hunting days are over. One of my basses weighs in on the chubby side of 11 pounds, and I get no fatigue at all with the Neotech and have comfy padding no matter how I wear my bass. I have this one: http://neotechstraps.com/mega-strap.html

Well Ok then. Just ordered a Neo. As it turns out I play a little alto sax when required and though I've never bought a Neo I know that that's the one recommended by most sax players.

I have a Comfort Strapp and a Neotech, they're both really comfortable. The Comfort Strapp is a bit more elastic than Neotech, which to me makes it a bit more comfy.

I use the Levys 4 1/2 Inch and it really is worth the price. Soo much better than a normal strap. Stays in position too, unlike neoprene stuff

Straps that are too big and spongy are actually less comfortable to me. And overly fluffy straps look dorky.

I went into a chiropractor last week, he looked at xrays of my back and said that my left shoulder sags substantially. The cause has been narrowed down to playing heavy basses with cheap straps. Also me being 160 pounds, 6'3" and stick thin dont help too much.

But im looking into getting a fancy strap to help balance out the weight
