Bill dickens pushing his new product on his bass DVD

Sign in to disble this ad
I thought this was so funny I just had to post it. Bill wastes a good 10 minutes of a 50 minute DVD pushing his prototype budda roll. Its a piece of rope man how is he going to sell a piece of rope for profit or who would buy it. Great bass player but lay off the what ever the Idea is that you put the rope under your strings for practice so that there is more tention or something I dont really get it.

I think trying to sell a signature model or product is pretty much standard, although some vids are much worse than others. I don't know what your my Bill Dickens DVD is, but yeah, he tries to sell it.

i have seen mention of this "rope" technique before, possibly from the same person but i do not remember..

i definatly remember someone jamming a rope under the strings, this one looked like one of those dog chew toys (a small one)

Watch that part of the DVD again. He clearly explains how it works and it's benefits.

And he did/does make money off of his product and it does work.

And it doesn't necessarily work because Bill says it does. It works mainly off of applied logic.

The main thing is to push ALL the way down. Even the pinky when its closest to the rope. And to progress to thicker ropes as you go.

Why do this?

To eliminate the hands from the equation of why you can't play.

Does anyone have a direct link to his Buddah Rope page on his website? I can't get to it with the funky menu navigation in Safari or Firefox. Just wanted to see how much a piece of rope costs.

Okay so back to the rope.

It actually works, but just like everything else in life, you gotta do it more than once.

Press all the way down and start with what you know..as you progress in practicing things you dont know, then go back to learn them again with the rope. But use the rope after you have stuff down..dont make it harder on youreself.

I think of it more as finger excersize rather than a part of a practice schedule.

I give the rope exercise a firm "meh". It's not a harmful technique for the most part, but I found the LH aspect not as beneficial from a physiological perspective. The muscles to press down get strengthened, but nothing happens to the muscles required to pull away.

Nothing personal man - my kids have been watching Star Wars movies for the last week and a half...I'm kind of overly sensitive to SW lately...

I took a piece of rope and used it to raise my strings, just like Bill Dickens suggested and I found it to be a great practice tool.
