| JimmyM ducks the punch and rope-a-dopes out. Yeah, its hard.
Bass players are side men. We usually don't get out front (notable exceptions yes) so we put up with whatever just so we can fundamentally form and mold the sound. It's a huge job and they ought to pay us more for doing it right (when we do it right, that is), but the world, as Clint Eastwood so poignantly pointed out to Little Bill "ain't got nothing to do with deserves".
I struggle with trying to keep band(s) on target, learning, improving and being responsible for the sound, and to a lesser degree the 'show' quality of the experience. Big egos are hard to handle and often come along with 'talent'.
As a practical person, I don't usually get all up in it unless I need to and then I say my piece, pack up and leave having made the decision after driving home from the previous gigs/rehearsals saying 'one day it's going to get to me'.
