Hey everyone. I guess judging by some of my posts, I guess we started off on the wrong foot. Let's start over...
Hi! I'm new here. My name is Ned Riley, I live in Melbourne, and, like everybody else here, I play bass guitar. My current setup is a Greg Bennett Fairlane through a Drive 30-watt combo. I hope to upgrade to a better setup, say, with Fender/MusicMan/G&L/Yamaha basses and other stuff.
My family's poor, so at the moment, I'm not big on signature models or high end equipment, because I believe I can find a good (if not better) sound for less.
My influences include Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order), Tim Commerford (RATM/Audioslave), Justin Chancellor (Tool), and Chris Wolstenholme (Muse).
As well as said bands, I also like Weird Al Yankovic, the White Stripes, Silverchair, the Foo Fighters, the Strokes, Metallica (early days before Load), the Rolling Stones, Beck, Coldplay, Blur, Incubus, Radiohead, Regurgitator, Queens of the Stone Age, Pantera, the Killers, Smashing Pumpkins, Guns N Roses, Led Zeppelin, Wolfmother, Franz Ferdinand and Oasis.
I'm pretty big on music videos as well. I really like the Director's Label series of DVD's that have come out recently, and have all the DVD's released so far, and I am now awaiting future releases. I'd like to see Smells Like Teen Spirit on a future release, but if Rock DJ appears, my collection will have to be incomplete. Perhaps my favourite videos of all time include Wonderwall, Black Bugs, Smack my Bitch Up, Cochise, Weapon of Choice and some other cool ones.
I have some musical connections in my family. My dad used to play in a band during the late 70's. And also, he produced the debut record for a band called the Jetsonnes, which later went on to become one of Australia's greatest bands of all time, the Hunters and Collectors. Of course, his sister's been more successful, as Kim from the hit (in Australia at least) TV series Kath and Kim.
Music aside, I really like dogs (I have a boxer and a whippet) and I sometimes like to do impressions as well. I like to do impressions from Family Guy, Beavis and Butthead, South Park, the Young Ones, Red Dwarf and Little Britain.
I look forward to meeting new people through this site, and hopefully updating my equipment. |

Read above if you want some more info. | Hello, Ned. My name is Munjibunga Malthus. My name without vowels is Mnjbngmlths. It's easier to say with a mouthful of dry Oreos.
My great-uncle Tom thought humans would run out of food in the 1800's, so he said we should stop humping each other. Well, we didn't stop, and we still have food, so I guess he was wrong, wasn't he?

When I was a kid, my Dad had to sell my bass and amp to buy food, he lost his job right before Christmas.
We visited some churches that had basses without a regular player, so I did get to play bass sometimes, but I didn't have a bass of my own. I dug an old classical guitar out of a dumpster, pulled out the frets, and strung it up with the heaviest green weedeater nylon I could find. That was my 'bass' for over a year.
God blessed me with a great IT job about 10 years ago, and I kind of overcompensated for my poor years, buying way too much gear.
I played Peavey and Westone basses through a Peavey amp for many years before getting the great job. And you know what? I found, that even though Peavey gear costs a lot less than the 'good' brands, it is good, solid gear that is capable of some good tones.

I dropped a bomb over there and haven't had the nerve to post since. The whole 'self taught vs. theory required' thing. I was sticking up for a noobie poster cause they were dissing his approach.
