YouTube - Black Dynamite Score Documentary

do you embrace old audio technology or new or both?

I intend to acquire & rebuild my home audio system w a tube power amp but I wonder if it will fly well w a digital receiver or does digital just undo everything? is it imperative to stay pure analog?
I'd like an audio technica at-lp60 turntable, marantz cassette deck. walkmans are going for around $50 so i'd rather get a tape deck.

I don't even have home audio. I listen to 99% of what I listen to either on my iPod, my computer, or on my car. I have a little crappy radio I use for... well... the radio.

I'm thinking that the Home Audio industry has taken a big, big, big hit as of late with the use of computers to even watch movies on. I think the industry may never die out entirely, but I don't think it'll be growing any time soon.

BTW, the Black Dynamite soundtrack is killer!

I really suspect that the difference between a tube vs. solid state power amp is nearly impossible to recognize in a home audio system. There's so many variables in the room that can hinder your listening experience, and far more likely to present audio problems then your equipment. Unless you know where to place bass traps and which reflective surfaces to disperse (and there's a whole science to that), the big differences in the power amps will be the knobs, dials and functionality of it (i.e. if it's surround sound, what sort of line outs you have, etc.), how many watts your amp has, and how long it'll be until it breaks down.

There's a great video by Ethan Winer that kind of addresses this stuff: YouTube - Audio Myths Workshop It contains a bunch of interesting info, and may save you alot of time and money on buying equipment that doesn't really do much to your sound.

I was a high end audio dealer for years...

You can get fantastic sound from your home audio system. It is truly a hobby that takes dedication if you want the best sound you can get for a specified amount of money. I learned all this in 1983 while stationed in upstate NY while in the service. I met some good folks that took me under their wings and I got so into it that I turned it into a business. Take a look at some reviews in this link and you may begin to get an understanding of the high end world that is still churning along, albeit at a lower level than in the past.
