First they use Dick Dale's song (you know, Pulp Fiction theme) to make a song (Pump it), which basicly is the exact same song, but with some vocals on it. Then they use Mas que Nada and do the exact same thing, they add some crappy rapped verses on it, have Fergie sing some bars and keep the chorus. Same trick. Take a hugely popular song (Mas que Nada is heard in Brazilian soccer commercials), give it a very little twist and voila, another hit and more money made. |

If he is not above squeezing a few more bucks out of an old song, then I can't knock the BEPs for getting their cut of the action.

Hits are hits and hits make hits.
Your publicity here is only making them more well known.
What a waste of a thread.

They were up there with the Roots and Common, as well as several others. Now they just kill me. So lame.

Look where they're at now. Funny what the promise of fame and fortune does to people eh?

They've always irritated me...so much so that, if I were an oyster, I'd be spitting out a pearl every 30 seconds.
But groups like them (pop/hip-hop) do this kind of thing all the time. Puff Daddy does it with impunity. It is the state American pop music has fallen to, sadly.

Now, they're yet another lowest-common-demoninator pop machine.

Though I'm with some of you on the older BEP stuff. It was better IMHO and a little more "real" and "conscious" a la Roots, Common etc. BEP Bridging the Gap is probably my favorite. Some of the new stuff is catchy, but gets kinda old fast.
