The Black keys are better with bass

Anyone else agree?

I just listened to Brothers (Loved it) so I decided to go through their earlier albums, the ones where there are still a duo. I don't like them as much, I liked them better with low end. This isn't because I play bass.

Anyone else agree?

And a fretless bass player would be awesome for them.

I would never listen to a "rock" band with no bass player. Period.

You sir are missing out. Pretty dumb to ignore a band simply because they do not have a bass player on the roster.

I bet you would listen to a band with out guitar... So what is the difference?

You forgot posers like my friend who pretended to like them when they first came out, because he was superficial enough to fall for all the hype and think that he was being trendy, but hasn't listened to their debut album ever since because it was actually irredeemable crap.

fell in love with a girl was a GREAT song when it was covered by Joss Stone:

I kind of like The Moaners, a two-girl band with no bass:

YouTube - ‪The Moaners "Heart Attack"‬‏

Although I admit, whenever I listen to them I always play along my own bassline inside my head.

White stripes are awesome (IMHO), doesn't have to be too complicated to rock hard.

On topic: I do like Brothers a lot, but I think I like Attack and Release better (at the moment).

We play 10AM Automatic and yes I think it sounds better with balls (bass).

Although I listen to the Black Keys with and without bass, i do enjoy them with it more. I think "Brothers" is a masterpiece!

My guitar has balls. I can jam as a two piece if I split my guitar signal and biamp with octave f/x. I play Ramones songs with my kid like this and its a lot of fun.

I've been a bass player for 25 years, but my solo project often consists of me on guitar with only a drummer... I do like having a bass player, but sometimes there is just more freedom in having no other melodic/harmonic instruments involved.

The difference is that I am a bass player and I don't care about guitar at all. Rock and roll requires a bassist.

I care about, appreciate and love the sound of an electric guitar. But in my mind and to my ear it sounds better sitting on top of an electric bass. YMMV.

Meh... I wouldnt say anything is a absolute in music specially Rock since it has so many different sub-genres in it. There are some songs that I love that I feel throwing a bass in there would just ruin it.

But on topic I think most two man bands IMHO are just gimmicks, making a full album without a bass seems like it would only limit your overall ability to make music but definatly agree the Keys new album sounds awesome with the bass in it.

Even the lightest lite-rock from the 70's has bass in it. Respectfully, I can't see any reason why any bass player would endorse the idea of rock and roll without bass in it.
