land/farm in BOA..they were a pretty good
rock band of the time, last live gig seems to
be in 06,are they still going..

It has been ages since i heard any Black Oak Arkansas.

One of the song intro's Jim Dandy calls out to the bass player;
".... gimme some bottom ..... gimme somethin I can STAND ON !"

Never saw 'em live, but they did a segment on one of the old concert TV shows - Don Kirshner's Rock Concert or maybe In Concert - that might still be buried in a Corporate vault somewhere

Two things that I remember vividly about that show:

1 - The chick singer was wearing a Huge afro wig with a long tail of straight hair hanging out the back

2 - The band might've been a bit on the crude side, but they definitely knew how to lay down one slammin' groove. Great party music, if nothing else

Also found out a little later later (via Guitar Player magazine) that all of the guitar players were self taught, right down to the open tunings they invented - none of them could play in standard tuning if their lives depended on it

BTW their signature tune Jim Dandy to the Rescue was a cover of an obscure blues number that sounded nothing at all like the Black Oak version

I recall seeing that...and I wish someone would release all those In Concert shows...while those of us who would want them are still around.

Check out the link for the 'fro.
...and she's deceased.

I used to play with a guy (keyboard/violin virtuoso) that actually was in a later version of BOA...Jim Dandy was the only original member. Shawn Lane (about 16-17 years old at the time) was the guitarist. These guys may have been 'better' musicians but nothing could be 'better' than the classic line-up w/ Tommy Aldridge.
BOA was all about "Raunch 'n' Roll"!

Check out "Mutants Of The Monster" from Raunch N' Roll Live...IIRC, that is the tune you're talking about.
"Dirty" Daugherty was the bass player at this time.
I'm pretty sure this was also performed on the In Concert show, too.

Here's a link to the "official" Black Oak Arkansas MySpace site.

Johnnie Bolin who is listed as their drummer is the younger brother of Tommy Bolin.

Man I never realized how badly David Lee ripped off Jim's whole look; not until I watched that Hot 'n Nasty vid. Their live album from back in the 70s is pretty killer stuff. Greasy, raunchy rawk 'n' roll.

I saw them live as well way back when.

I remember they had three guitarists with each one having a distinct tone, playing in unison, then trading off each other. Killer show.
