They used to be the hippest thing you could get. I mean, people would buy blue LEDs to replace the red ones in their effects and amps so they could be cooler than you.
As I was being blinded by the blue lights in my Shuttle 9.0 tonight, I realized I wasn't any more hip than anyone else with a Shuttle. Now everybody's putting blue LEDs in their new equipment and mass coolness has been lost.
I'm thinking of getting some green LEDs to replace my blue ones. Even my Aguilar amps are infested with the danged things. Let's see how long it takes the manufacturers to catch up with me. (I know, Walter Woods is already there.)

I usually use green LEDs if I want a diffused lens, and red, white or blue if I want a clear lens. I'm not a big fan of red, but I usually have a ton of them in my parts drawer. Blue LEDs do look nice, but they tend to always be expensive when I buy them. |

I had green LED's in the neck of my Celinder 5 string. Pretty cool. I have a blue LED on my Mesa M9. Groovy LOL

I found the coolest led in my daughter's plastic bath duck, it cycles through 6 colours automatically stepping colour each 3 seconds, and this is all contained in one led.

I know that all kinds of cool LEDs exist in SMT packages, but SMT components are largely useless for any sort of DIY jobs. |

The duck came as a gift, but i think it came from some $2 variety store.
I found a YouTubelink to an example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is_AV7bGbT8
BTW: it is also just a 2 pin led with all the circuitry built in.

I can just imagine them in my Shuttle 9, all contour switches on and the power LED with all 4 changing color in an asynchronous fashion...Psycho-funkin-delic.
