Man, I just watched the Blues Brothers movie for the umpteenth time, and every time I hear that band I want to pull out my Precision and start wumping!
Any self respecting Bass Player that sees that movie and does not want to grab a Fender must have a missing nut. And as Duck Dunn put it, "that band could turn goat piss into gasoline!" |

But, major misstep with the casting, especially the little boy.
If you like the blues brothers, you should check out Wayne Cochran and the CC Ryders, the original.
The horn riff on the clip above, (and which was used in "everybody loves somebody" from the 1st movie, was copied from a Wayne Cochran song.
Here is Brother Wayne. (that bass player look familiar to anyone?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5_GstlPL64

| | | | Duck Dunn once referred to slap technique as party tricks for kids? No matter how big a bass player he is (and also one of my favorites when it comes to blues), that's a very immature statement. |

I can't tell, they don't give him any decent camera time.
edit:
While I'm here, I have to mention this. One of my favorite scenes from the Blues Brother. I forget exactly what scene this is, but I'm pretty sure they're in a bathroom or something (haven't seen it in a long time). Anyway, while they're talking and going about their business, you can very clearly see the words "JOCKO RULES" written on the wall behind them. Always put a smile on my face.

He's a musician who contributes a supporting role and some of the modern slap style could be viewed as flash with little to support the music, more as the bassist gratuitously displaying chops for the sake of displaying chops. |

It was an average movie and if not for the soundtrack and the fact that Aykroyd and Belushi were such big stars at the time it was made, the movie would have been a flop. |
