Blues songs, Tips for duo gigs?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi peeps,

Long time since I was around here, however, I have full confidence in the common competence in here and I need some advice from ya'll!

Me and a buddy are about to put together a blues duo for doing gigs at pubs and smaller places (me on bass/ac. guitar and he on vocals ac. guitar), and I'd love to get all your "must haves" for the playlist, just remember that the songs need to work out well on 2 ac. guitars or 1 ac. and electric bass (ie. no steve ray vaughn super solo songs), so in the genre of acoustic blues it is then!

Just keep em comin!

Thanks in advance!

I don't think folks are disinterested persay, I just think that the obvious answers are obvious. Most any blues tune can be tweaked to work with a duo.

Tell what I'd do..... Get ahold of all the Hot Tuna stuff that you can. I consider them to be the epitome of what a blues duo can do.

A few bluesy songs off the top of my head that can be done pretty well acoustic (it would help a lot if one of you could add in a little harmonica)...

City Boy - Keb Mo
Jumper Hangin' on the Line - RL Burnside
Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers
Night Train - Amos Lee
Wandering Blues - John Lee Hooker
Layla- Eric Clapton
A Change is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke

And this dude rocks the heck out of "Boom Boom" completely drunk, very likely insane, and all by himself on an acoustic, LOL.

"Boom Boom" John Lee Hooker by John Langford Acoustic .

Great video!! Gotta love that dude's version of boom boom!

It'll sure be a bunch of JLH, T-Bone Walker, some Albert Collins, Muddy Waters most likely...

Just wanted to get a picture of what favourite "must have" blues numbers there's out there played on the venues and bars all over the world!

My friend Chris and I do a blues duo on open mike nights, guitar and bass. Most of the old Muddy Waters songs are easily adaptable, and we do some Siegel-Schwall tunes. Jimmy Reed tunes are another good source. We have alot of fun with it, hope you do too.
