Body Woods

I was wondering what is so crappy about basswood, the particular bass i would like to buy comes in ash or basswood, however the colours available on the ash bodies really suck and i like the colours on the basswood bodies. So i was wondering if i should just get the colour i like for the cheaper price or spend extra to get a crappy colour but a better body. Can someone please tell me whats so bad about basswood, or whats so good about other woods.

Thanks ^^

The biggest negative I've heard about it is that it's soft and dents easily. However, many people like the tone that comes from it, so it's a trade-off

Oh kool, it wont matter if i get it then. My current bass is made of basswood and i dont have any problems with it, aslong as im not chucking it on the ground or anything its fine.

Ah thanks guys. So basically the basswood is more prone to damage yet has a nicer tone and is easier to colour
