Boss DB30

Hey, just had a quick question regarding the Boss DB-30 metronome. I'm thinking of ordering one at my local store, but need to know if for instance I set it to play 5 beats, can I then set it to play triplets over that? Like do the rhythm and beat features work together, or are they separate?
