Boss TU-3 Tuner

Sign in to disble this ad
I just noticed the new Boss TU-3 tuner is on the street. I wondered if anyone was blowing out TU-2s, but I haven't found anyone with them in stock. Anybody got a TU-3 yet? Did they blow out the TU-2s?

And if anyone's used one, what's different/better compared with the TU-2?

Speaking from England here, but my local shop is saying they have them on their website.
And, strangely, they are selling the 3 for £4 cheaper than the 2 (with the TU-2 being £79 and the TU-3 being £75 for the record).
Not quite sure why, haven't had a chance to try out a 3 yet. I'm guessing the popularity for the 2 must still be quite high but it still seems very strange. I know the new one has a greater accuracy bringing it level with the Pitchblack (+/- 1 cent) but the Boss isn't true bypass. Suppose it depends if you want a buffer at the start of your chain or not as to which one you get (not saying that's the only reason however!).
I'd still like to try one out but they don't have them in yet...Actually, just checked and they are showing 'NEW In Stock' so I might get the chance. Will report back if I can
Hope this helps OP

I got mine yesterday for 75€. I actually wanted to purchase a TU-2 and I only found out about the TU-3 when I noticed that Thomann no longer carried the former. The price of the TU-2 was lower, though: around 66€ in the same site last time I checked.

I have used a friend's TU-2 a few times so I really can't compare both but according to the manual the newer model indeed has greater accuracy, +/- 1 cent as CYDbass said. The main difference I see is that the TU-3 has a lot more leds than the TU-2, 21 vs. 11. Also, there's a visual help in addition to the > < lights, something called Acu-pitch Sign consisting of the meter lights streaming toward the center of the display when stable tuning is reached. Oh, and there's also a high brightness mode but the default is plenty.

I don't know if there are any improvements in the tracking speed but it's fast enough for me.

Had a TU-2 several years ago and did not care for it. Just got new TU-3 yesterday and will baptize it in gig fire tonight. It tested nicely against my venerable old TU-8's needle.

I have the 2 and have never had any complaints. I see no reason to ever get a different one.

OK, I just got a TU-3 today. It has a much better display, tracks very well on the low B, and purportedly is more accurate. It puts on a funky light show when you are in tune. No buyer's remorse here.
