Boss Tuner Stompbox Price/Schematics

I've always wondered why this thing costs $99. Is there a good reason? I've always wanted one but I can't justify even paying $40 used on the gear forum here because I have tuners (regular old korg and fender POS tuners) that were free and serve the same purpose.

Alternately, are there schematics for this or a similar box anywhere?
