If it isn't a neck-through, I usually take the neck off, and wrap it in bubble wrap, and the body as well, then put it in as small a box as I can, then pad it with peanuts. Saves a ton on oversize charges.

Yeah, just go to GC. Thats where I have got them from. Go in and ask if they have any Bass boxes. They usually dont mind because they just toss them.

I went to a local music store and they wanted to charge me.

GO TO A BIKE SHOP!!!

I am a Bicycle Mechanic by trade, and I'd have to say bike shops will have some fine quality cardboard! Get a box or two, and cut them down and use good quality strapping or shipping tape to Customize a Double thick Box! Shouldn't take more than 15 minuets to make your box and if you do it right (NOT HARD), you recipient will get an intact bass. I think most Bicycle shops won't charge you for all the cardboard you want, and the Earth will thank you for Reusing!
