Unknown Instrument Video

Never seen it before. I really appreciate your input since I'm a big fan of low-register brass instruments. Thank you in advance!

I've never seen that before either! Neato. It looks like the entire brass section had an orgy, and gave birth to that thing.

Looks to me like a modified upright tuba with the last loop of brass and bell turned forward.

Contrabass valve trombone is my guess, based on context.

Valved Bass Trombone. Unusual(?) vertical design. Cool how he "pulls" the tuning slide with a thumb trigger (typically valve systems have a sharpness problem somewhere, often valves 1+3). Trumpeters have to use their pinky for the "pull."

Quick trip to google land yields results:

It's a Cimbasso, a cross between a contra-bass trombone and a tuba.

Cimbasso, Cerveny Cimbasso

(How did you search for that? I never heard that name before)

Thank you so much! BTW, the Wikipedia entry on this instrument quotes the same video I posted (full tune).
