Brian Cornwell and Buzzards Bass Shop

Does anyone have any knowledge of what is going on with Brian Cornwell and/or his Buzzard's Bass Shop? It looks like I might have made a $328 mistake ordering a neck and other stuff from him, and will have to file a paypal dispute. I got a receipt from paypal, but no receipt or any acknowledgement whatsoever from Mr. Cornwell. Three emails have come back undeliverable. He is a supporting member here, and has been the subject of some pretty heavy accusations and criticism. These posts are over a year old, though, and I can find nothing else on him. He seems to do a lot of ranting about what a fine cat he is, but there seem to be some other guys who would argue with that. I have two basses on the bench right now, and this will really hang me up if it turns out that he's not the conscientious, straight-shooter he says he is. Where you at, Brian? Rock

I'd like to know too. I had a cart full of stuff there before reading here that he had not delivered stuff that had been paid for so I ordered from elsewhere for now until I see what he's doing.

Actually if you use the Google TB search on "buzzard's bass" you'll find some much more recent posts.

I'm trying to get back the $90 that he got via PayPal. Email does not exist. I'm wondering why PayPal did not close that account yet!

Personally, the guy and his site and practices always seemed 'iffy' at best to me. I went there a few times due to links here and always thought to myself 'I don't think I could confidently buy into this'.

I hate to hear this -
I have done a trade or 2 with Brian and he did seem like a straight-up guy. I hope everything is ok with him, and wish you guys all the best of luck in your dealings.

I've been doing business with Brian for over a year, I currently have about $350 tied up in a bass he was working on for me (the 4th I've had him do, he does great work). Though it would be nice to eventually get it, he's easily hooked me up with a lot more money than that in free stuff he's done for me. Last I heard he's had some personal issues so I hope everything is ok with him. I don't know what became/will become of all the basses he was working on in his shop though.

Wow, this is unbelievable. Very sorry for those who got ripped off. I was actually going get some work done from him (not now!), but I assume his business is toast anyways.

Yeah I ordered something from him as well.

Luckily, if you payed through PayPal, you can dispute it. I filed a dispute about a week ago, and they decided it in my favor yesterday, so at least you can get your money back.

I hope Mr. Cornwell is alright, I didn't feel like I was getting scammed so much as his business might have gone under or something. With the economy the way it is, it would hardly be surprising.

PayPal decided in my favor for me yesterday, too. However, it took about three weeks for them to decide! I can't believe that they are still taking orders for an account that every customer is filing disputes for and where the only email does not even exist! After second or third dispute in row, they should have frozen his account. It's unbelievable.

Brian is back in business. I saw an eBay listing from Buzzard's Bass Shop, so I went back to his website. He's moved from New England down to Bradenton, Florida and the website is saying he's doing all the same type work as before.

He's just started (Sept. 27) a month-long break to move his equipment and gear down to Florida and get everything fully set up again. Says he will be back up and running after October 22.

Nothing on the website says what happened last fall or what kind of situation he was in. Looks like he's trying for a fresh start in Florida. I hope he does well, and that those of you who had disputes last year can get them settled now.

It is important to remember this thread was started waaay back, almost a year ago. As of late, Brian has been back on TB and apparently doing business. I ordered stuff from him in the past and never had an issue till he ran into a bunch of BS that he apparently had no control over. I filed a paypal dispute and got my money back for something I had ordered then too.

The other transactions and emails to and from him were fine and Brian seems like a good guy. I would not be too hasty to condemn anyone on happenings of a short period of time. And unless something weird happens, I would order from him again.

Take that for what it is worth, and do not order just because I said I would again. I guess my whole point is TBers, well, some anyway, seem to be very hasty to condemn....use paypal. If some bizarre stuff happens you will get your money back.

He was around here a few days ago posting snarky comments in one of the Basses threads.

Okay, disable the shopping cart if you are not taking orders. Don't send out insolent emails like that to customers. What a joke.
Are you serious? That's an awful way to treat a customer, via email or whatever.

I got a pretty good laugh out of that. It does have a blinking message at the top about ordering being shut down. Brian is not the most diplomatic guy when it comes to dealing with the average customer. Do business with him for a while, though, and he'll treat you great. I've been dealing with him for years now with no problems, and I've gotten a LOT of parts ordered and a bunch of bass work done.
