What to you think of the current chart battle between Rage Against The Machine and Joe McElderry?
Personally, I'm rooting for Rage. They are one of my favourite bands and Tim Commerford's funky lines have really inspired me as a bassist. It's really cool to see a band that I have stood behind for years finally get some chart love. Joe is a brilliant singer and he is from my area, but that isn't enough to make me support a talent competition winner over a band who has put years and years of work into getting to where they are today. The chart results will be announced tomorrow, here's hoping
In related news, my sister is getting all pissy at me because I bought Killing In The Name instead of Joe's Miley Cyrus cover

A meaningful pissing contest at least. |

I'm not a huge fan of Tim's tone in this clip, or the torn up "punk" state of his rig but I do like his playing and that red jazz is beautiful!
The chart battle is a good idea started by grass roots fans who are just fed up of X-factor and commercially produced pop filling the charts and so I support it, and the reaction at the end of that youtube clip from the radio station really shows how most people think.... ridiculous IMHO

Arn't they both on the same record label? So the real winner is Sony. In fact they must be loving this. Though they did say they'll give SOME of the money to charity. Anyways still hope Rage get it! I love them. |

I hate X-factor, I hate the people who insist on talking at great length about such and such having a great voice, because...to be honest, they are generally all rubbish. Its not a talent competition, its a popularity contest.
I know that buying the Rage track is essentially pointless, but perhaps if the X-factor track doesn't get number 1, then the show will lose popularity with potential contestants. This will hopefully lead to the inevitable demise of the show, sooner rather than later.
Wishful thinking perhaps. |

In the 80s it was important that say, God Save the Queen was an antidote to jingoism and so was it "rigged" not to get to No 1?
Also - the fact that the Smiths or the Jam entered the charts at No 1 was a boost for "real bands" !
But since "Top of the Pops" disappeared and sales of singles went through the floor - it all seems irrelevant nowadays and this seems like a "manufactured" attempt to revive interest in it...?
The Golden age of the charts has long gone, I'm afraid...

Don't care about the monatory side of the record business, it is always going to be there. Would at least like to see some real creativity going into music.
Also good to know there is going to be a lot of money going to charity from this

Changed my life, seriously. It being Xmas #1 gives me an enormous sense of happiness. The huge charity donation and free show next year are the icing on the big angry cake!

That is something that will be there wether or not I buy Rages single or not etc. I don't want to hurt Simon in the pocket. I want to hurt the monopoly on british chart music that x Factor has.
The facebook group gives you the CHOICE on wether or not to download the single. Frankly, I would rather join an organized effort to oust a bland pop ballad than buy a random song of my choosing which would make absolutely no impact.
I chose to rebel against the charts because it's something that I care about.

The singles market is just a publicity thing and ironically all of this "controversy" has generated more of this - which has played right into Simon Cowells hands - he couldn't have planned it better!!
