I have a squier standard strat and it's killer. I personally have found I don't really enjoy Gibson's or Gibson's neck profile so I didn't enjoy Epiphones so much.

Any recommendation for a les paul copy? I like the tone of them, though I haven't actually played one to see how it feels. |

I've been impressed with some of their guitars lately. Also watch for Godin, who make some really sweet axes for reasonable prices. For a decent Les Paul copy, Dean is probably the least expensive that's impressed me. I generally haven't liked the less expensive Epiphones, though some of the higher end Epis are good.
If you're into the dual-humbucker tone, watch for an MIM HH Strat. They made these a few years ago, and they're great. I have a 2001 Am. Ser. version, and it's an incredibly useful, versatile guitar.

My acoustic is a Godin.. thing is amazing. For as many basses as I have gone through chasing tone, I picked this thing up and just loved the tone instantly. |

It's a semi-hollowbody, but the sound is versatile enough that you can use it for rock, jazz, country..whatever. You can usually pick one up used on evil bay for around $300. One of the things I like is since it's a semi-hollowbody, I can play it without an amp and and still hear it.....they're cool looking too.
Here's one of my guitar players playing mine...
