Build-you-own Gear Cases?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've searched around TB, but havent found anything....

I'm interested in building my own Case to transport all my gear to gigs/practices/etc. Possibly even something big enough to also hold my pedal board too.

Does anyone have any links, tips, pictures, etc. on this subject? Any information would be appreciated! Thanks.

Hi.

A "custom" instrument case ATA-style:

Making a custom case for Epi LTD Explorer

Tips?

If You want to save money: You probably won't.
If You want to make something that has resale value: You probably can't.

You'll need some tools or an access to a wood-shop.
Not everyone will allow You to use their saw for cutting aluminium extrusions.

That said, You roll your own, you can:
Make the cases to fit your car for example.
Maximize the use of space.
Make cases that aren't available on the shelf.
Make cases that protect gear better than what's generally available etc.

Nothing obviously prevents You from making cases other than ATA style. That usually means much heavier construction and/or necessitates use of special tools/equipment though.

Regards

Thanks for the reply. I'm really looking for info/plans/etc on making a case to hold all my other gigging stuff, not the bass itself. Cables, mics, pedals, strap, etc.

Hi.

You're welcome.

All the dimensions on mine are scalable, You can make a hardcase for a harmonica if You wish.

Just add/substract the same amount from the panels and from the extrusions and You're good to go.

Regards
Sam
