State to ax 50,000 Clermont trees | Cincinnati.com | cincinnati.com

Ohio is cutting down 50,000 trees. At first, ONLY infested trees were to be removed...most people agreed to let the state come in and take care of it. NOW they're cutting down just about everything within "the infected area".

I heard this on the news driving to work this morning. Staggering amount of trees. It reminded me of the fact that Lebanon used to be known for its cedar trees before they were all cut down.

A vast majority of the trees aren't even infested. They're cutting down pretty much any tree within 1/2 mile of a tree that has a few holes in, "just in case".

The farmers around my area (Bellefontaine, northwest of Columbus) seem to be having a field day. Huge trunks in neat and even lengths, are stacked by the roadside waiting to be hauled off to the sawmill. I wonder what the rules are for use of infected wood. I remember seeing signs asking people to use firewood locally, to not transport it.

The rule here is that you aren't allowed to transport firewood across county lines.
