Building a synthesizer, how do I do it?

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone tried to make their own synthesizer?
I already have a keyboard, so I think that I can probably use that as a controller, so I think I just need to make the unit to synthesize sounds. Even if it's just really simple, I still think that it would probably be a fun project. Has anyone here ever done this sort of thing? How much does it cost? Where do I get the parts/what parts do I need to get?

Thanks

Haven't tried to make my own synth, but this kit is well regarded.

you could build a MIDI box, all you'd need is that (much) sought after Commadore64 chip.

You need to do some better googling for this subject. I once ran across a site where the guy had been building his own commercial grade synthesizer from scratch for the last 20 years or so. This thing was humongous. He builds all of his own generators and filters and integrates them into the system. The site is directed entirely to building synths. Lots of hardware links and stuff.
