I figure it would be nice to be able to gig outside of school and get some "real-world" experience and so i'd like to have some cards made to hand out when i meet other musicians. Is this a good idea and how did you guys o about the same process of getting out there?
P.S. Is there a recipe for a good business card portrait? A professional session is too much cash and i can do some stuff with Photoshop own my own i just don't know exactly what to do.

Mine are very simple, plain white with part of a Treble Clef (half tone/gray) on the left side, and my company name, my name, my contact info on the right (right justified)....I am a keys/bass/gtr, so I used the treble clef.
There are places to get free ones online - Google "Free Business Cards" (I've used Vista, they are legit, you just pay shipping)
You could also use Vista to get some design ideas, even if you don't order.
btw, it's a great idea...I never leave my home without a few in my pocket.

| | | | Probably the best way to do this is buy business card stock at your local office-supply store and find a free microsoft word template. I did that back when I did magic and they turned out great.
When you say you're in school, do you mean uni or high school? (I'm in my last year of high school) I'm not sure if people will take a high school musician seriously, regardless of whether they have a business card or not. **Not saying that you aren't talented, but that's just the way people are...that's one of the reasons I never really got a decent gig doing magic. Not old enough to be taken seriously, even after I flipped their world upside-down.

My friend (a keyboardist) play at his church for $150 a week and got paid gigs all over the area but that's because he's pretty much amazing. I'm not looking for that though, honestly, all I want to do is get out and play more. If i get paid, great, if not, i still got to play out so i'd be happy.
