Business License?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, my band just pressed 1,000 copies of our first album and we were interested in selling them online. We don't really want to do digital downloads, just sell copies and mail them out.

Do we need a business license to do this?

Also, does anyone know a good method for selling CDs online? We just want to have a form that people can fill out and it credits the money to like our paypal account.

Thanks for your help guys

Every state is different. In Wisconsin, it's called a sales tax license. I found a similar thing for Michigan here:

Taxes - Sales and Use Tax FAQs

As for selling online, if you have your own website, you can easily create a PayPal shopping cart. In fact, I suggest looking at my website and the PayPal shopping cart for my little business. Feel free to adapt my code. It's also worth looking at the PayPal sites to see if there are options that are even easier. I have been really happy with PayPal.

Thanks for the reply, hopefully that's all we need. I don't really like paperwork..
As for PayPal, I'm looking into it right now.

If you buy a car, it's worth a few hundred in premium to a good insurance agent to make sure you're insured properly.

If your band is doing well, it's worth a few hundred to contact a local lawyer to make sure you're headed the right direction.

well reverb nation will market them for a portion of the profits but you could also list them on amazon and send your fans to amazon.

CD Baby,
And I think you are missing out if you don't sell downloads.

limitedpressing.com

$10 a month. No % of your sales are taken. You can list up to 25 different items/cds/whatever. I've been running a lablel using them. Never had any problems with payments/ orders.

thanks for your help guys
I'm goona talk to the band about limitedpressing.com

I like that they don't take from your sales, and $10 a month isn't all that bad
