american musical works for me. they have warehouses in nevada and new jersey. the one thing they don't have is the ability to tell you which warehouse your stuff is shipping from until the shipper prints. if you need it fast, it could be a problem. if you don't, nj to ca is 7 days ups ground.

It depends on what you want. I have never had a problem with music123.com, Strap, cables, mic, misc...

I can reccomend MusiciansFriend and Music123 firsthand.

I've heard really good things about Zzounds though.

Musicians Friend: free shipping on most amps/cabs - price matching, good service, good returns process. I'd recommend!

I've done a lot of business (I mean a lot)with Musicians Friend but lately their attitude and lack of customer service has sent me looking for greener pastures. I recently made a rather large purchase from The Groove Shop and even though I haven't had to utilize their customer service, I get the impression that I wouldn't have an issues. Plus they carry some amazing gear.

Most of my buying was done prior to the MF move earlier this year, so it looks like the couple of weeks of upset MF were forecasting may have been optimistic?

I love The Perfect Bass. Brandt has helped me to purchase two basses and an Eden head from them. Each transaction was flawless and so were the products I bought.

You also get 10% off if you belong to this forum. Just put talkbass in the code when you order.

In fact I have a new bass in the mail as we speak.

i bought a Modulus from Bass Northwest a few years ago. Very smooth transaction. www.bassnw.com Maybe someone can clear up something for me: why order from MF when you can just go to Guitar Center? They are the same company, right? Obviously, i understand if there is not a GC near you, but like Starbucks, it seems there is one on every street corner nowadays. I've got two in my town. anyways, just curious. plus it depends on if you want new or used gear as well.

I've bought from MF quite a bit, and never had a problem. I've probably made 10-15 purchases from them, and they've been efficient everytime. My brother/guitarist had a bad experience with music123 though. He ordered a half stack that was backordered (notified after the fact) and never informed him of an estimated ship date. He waited for 5 months before abandoning the purchase.

Well there are a few reasons:

1-selection at the said GC is usually no where near as good as MF. Things advertised on MF are not always in stock at GC.

2-usually (at least for me) the GC is a 20-30 min drive away, MF is there as fast as I can start my comp.

3-price. I know...the prices are usually the same on GC & MF. What I mean by that is if I spend $300 at MF, it will usually ship free...and at GC I will have to spend both gas $ & TAX $...something I avoid at MF.

Overall, I would rather shop at GC. I can demo something before buying, buy THAT particular model that I like and play with it instantly when I get home...but that doesn't happen all that often.

You don't have to deal with that noob in the corner, trying to play the latest alt rock song, on the marshall full stack, with volume at 11.

When I was getting my first bass, everyone recommended MF. Unfortunately, this was when they were moving so my stuff wouldn't even be shipped till the following month. I went with Zzounds.com instead. Had smaller selection, but same (if not lower) prices and shipping was immediate. I had to deal with the customer service due to a mix up in shipping (which is actually common here) and I found it to be EXEMPLARY. Discounted my shipping cost (I payed for 2 day shipping) and were very helpful. I highly recommend them.

MF has been OK to deal with on a number of occasions. Sam Ash has done me right as well.

As with any advice of this type, YMMV.
