Buying and returning equipment

Sign in to disble this ad
In the past few months, I've purchased 4 different bass preamps from on-line vendors, and have spend a few weeks playing with them before returning them. Last year, I "bought" a $2500 Yamaha John Patitucci bass, and returned it for a full refund a month later. I'd say in the past 3 years I've probably purchased and returned over 10 items (I do keep some of the equipment I buy, mind you).

Is this vendor abuse? I figure if they advertise a 30 or 45 day return policy, they have to except this kind of behavior.

Anyone ever been "blacklisted" by a store for excessive returns?

Yes. If you're 'buying' things just to play them for the length of the return policy and you have no intention of buying...you're a weasel.

I've worked retail at numerous businesses and we DID blacklist people who couldn't play nice.

If you're legitimately in the market and looking to buy one and are comparing a few, this is fine.

If you need a piece of gear for a show or a couple of shows, buy them for these shows and return them, you're a cheat.
