Exclamation Buying and Selling Basses on Talkbass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

I was just wondering, I purchased a Precision Bass here on talkbass, payment was sent july 2nd.

Since then i never got any feedbacks from our fellow tb user.

Should I start to worry ?

I didn't get any answers via talkbass or email.

Thanks

That's only a week...I'm not sure I'd be too worried yet.

But you said he hasn't responded to you yet? Has he been online? If not, that's understandable (albeit a little irresponsible. You should always confirm receipt of payment) and I wouldn't freak out yet and throw him to the wolves.

Remember, some people are just slow or lazy with this kind of stuff. That's not how it SHOULD be, but that doesn't mean he's a scammer.

Shipping from the US to Canada can be a pain. He's probably working on all the crap you have to fill out first. (OK, it's not that bad, but too much work for me to bother with). Has he logged in since you talked to him last. If not, I'm sure he's dealing with something. If he's logged and is just ignoring you...who knows.

This.

Either way, it really is a bit early to freak out.

did you try calling him.. his number is on the listing. Don't think a scammer is going to put an incorrect number on there.

Plus maybe it stopped in customs.

I can see 3-4 days delay for the Holidays. How did you pay? Is he waiting for a check to clear? Customs can sometimes add several days to shipping.

Nice looking P you bought. Seller has good feedback, but only 2 total (and only one of those was a sale). Hopefully it will work out, but he SHOULD at least respond to you PM's. If you paid via Paypal, you can get your cash back. If my money order, you better hope he does the right thing!

I just sold a bass July 3rd. Buyer's payment cleared today and his bass shipped out today. It would not be too unusual for your seller to have not shipped yet. It would be great if you had ongoing contact to make certain you knew how things were progressing. PM him. Call him. Once it's shipped you will, of course, want to have a tracking number.

On the other hand, I bought a bass about three weeks ago (not a TB transaction). It's still not here yet. It's in safe hands, so I'm not worried about it, but I do need to "motivate" some friends to go ahead and ship the durn thing.

Peace,

James

Honestly, there's no reason for the lack of communication unless the seller is in the hospital or worse. Even if he wasn't near a computer he could have found a way to call and tell you what was going on. To let a week and a half go by without any contact and even more especially if you've emailed and PM'd him is just rude.

Paypal payments can take a few days to actually be deposited into the seller's bank account. That said, as others have pointed out, lack of communication is not too curtious. I would call him to confirm he has received the payment and to ask him when the bass will be shipped. Please tell me he is shipping it US Postal Service......

The only bass I bought on TB took 1 week longer than usual but the seller responded to every message I sent him.

Personally I would be concerned. Communications here are usually returned within a few hours if not minutes. Even still, the guy has had ample time.

I would be concerned, but I also think you should be talking to a mod and not posting about it here.

BTW- The phone number in the ad is a Boca Raton phone number. It just beeps twice when you call it...and "The pictures below are not mine, but show essentially the same bass" should have been a red flag...

Forget the feedback, did you get the bass?
I have purchased three basses here and never had a problem.

If you are selling a Bass here you should be prepared to ship it upon receipt of payment. I really dislike having to wait for someone to ship me gear they have already received payment for. I have had great luck here and no issues. But...when you post something for sale and have interest - be sure you have the box and packing material on hand so when payment is sent you can get the item out the door and on the way.

Longest I have waited is about 10 days - that was off the Bay and the guy had to get to the other side of town to drop it at UPS or that was the story.

All I am saying is if you are selling and ready to take someone's money - be ready to deliver the goods in a timely manner.
