Cables, Guitar vs. Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Is there really a difference in an instrument cable that is stated, by manufacturer, for specifically for a bass vs. one for a guitar?

Monster states their "Bass" cables have 2 solid core conductors.

Is 2 smaller ones better than 1 larger (providing the 1 equals the same diameter as the 2 smaller ones)? If so, wouldn't 2 smaller ones be better for guitar, as well? If 2 is better, why not 3 or 4, 5, 6, etc.?

I got into this discussion a few years ago when I was playing guitar in a band. The bassist came to practice one day with a new "Bass" cable. He said there is a difference. Not knowing for sure, I just said "OK, if you like it...cool." All the while thinking, "There ain't no difference in 'guitar or bass' cables."

Sure there is a difference in speaker vs. instrument vs. xlr. But guitar vs bass?

Gord oh...sorry but that did not answer my question. It was just a monster bashing thread.

I don't care if it's monster, planet waves, or brand x, y or z. Personally, I "roll my own", have for 15+ years. Why? Mainly because I cheap. I get everything in bulk, that way I can make my own length and I KNOW the ends are soldered correctly.

Does anyone have any DATA stating there is a difference in a Bass vs. Guitar instrument cable. NOT opinion, please.

I'm sure there are people out there who can hear better than me, I've been playing on stage for over 25 years, so I know my hearing sucks...but I know I can hear better than my 72 year old neighbor who hears a hearing aid.
