Not sure where to put it, so in Misc. it goes. What gear does Cake use? The bass is what I really want, but the other instruments too if you know them. Sounds like a Jazz bass, but I don't have an ear for telling basses apart.

Depends which album because they had a few different bass players. The album that had " I Will Survive " was done mostly with a vintage Pbass with flats.

Last time I saw them live it was a P bass through Ampeg.

They're playing here again next month, I'm excited. They've always had tasteful bassists and put on a good show.

Agreed, although sometimes IMO they're a little too tasteful, and just repeat riffs over and over for the entire song, with little embellishment or flare. Still, the grooves are usually tight, and the tone is always great.

You've accidentally taken my review for Rage Against the Machine and applied it to Cake.

I didn't know they went through more than one bass player... I did read at least at one point that it was P or J basses with flats, a GK RB-400 head and Ampeg 410 cab... not sure which album/player that was though.

Huge +1 there, and I like Rage.
