Call out a bassist...for bassists that comment and can't back it up.

I think anyone that comments on something should be able to back it up with some form of playing.

My main point is that you shouldn't comment if you can't play at all. Anyone that can play post something and deal with the consequences.

If that was the rule here, this place would be a ghost town!

Tom..it means that even if you are not the greatest bassist in the world you try and and have an opinion. Its fine if you have a myspace with some of your song, don't say someone sucks if you don't.

Did someone say that your playing sucked and now you're getting bent out of shape about it?

I mean I can listen to say a guitar player and say that they're a terrible horrendous guitarist. I can tell that with my ear, regardless of my own guitar playing abilities. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to know what nails on a chalk board sounds like.

Next you're going to require reviews and comments from folks that have played outside of their bedrooms(on a gig).

if there was a skill requirement to post on talkbass, it's probably be a lot smaller forum than it is.

people can say what they want...as long a they say it in the right forum.

basses is for instrument specific discussions, which this is not.

everybody's got an opinion. don't take em personally.

Hmmm I'm trying to think of how to say this...I see comments from people and they have tons of equipment and nothing to show us of there playing... and I don't want negative reviews of anyones playing.

I could see wanting someone to back up what they say when they are stating their opinion as fact.

But stating an opinion (on anything) requires nothing, except a desire to have one and say it.

requires nothing, except a desire to have one and say it. Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side? It requires nothing, except a desire to have one and say it. Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me

I'm not one to call someone out on their skills, I don't feel I'm talented enough to do so. Even if I was, it's still not my style. Still, even if I suck, it doesn't mean I can't tell if somebody else sucks, too.

That's why I'm in the mediocre bass player's club. Lighten up, man. Based on your signature, you're kind of judgmental on the whole relicing thing. Can you please remove it?

what does someone else's ability on an instrument have to do with their opinion of the music?

just curious why they should go hand in hand.

beware of that kind of gunslinger approach - opens the door for even more vitriol - almost like laying the gauntlet down.

best way to take all criticism is with a grain of salt.

Wouldn't it be better if someone posted a video of their crappy playing?

Then they could show they are an authority on bassists who suck.
