CALLING ALL METALHEADS: Reccomend me some bands!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
For a few months now I've been bored to tears with all the music in my Winamp library. I want something new, something exciting that really "WOWs" me. The last band I found that really knocked me back and I fell in love with was Type O Negative, but I've since listened to them so much that I don't really get a kick out of their music anymore. I want to find lots of new bands. And new songs to play on bass! My boredom with all my music has discouraged me to pick up my basses and play along with songs, and that really sucks. So please help guys!

I'll list some of the stuff I like in music.

- Keyboards (anything from plain old keyboard to folk metal type stuff)
- Clean vocals (can be mildly growly, eg Pantera or Black Label Society style)
- Chunky ass riffs (see Black Label Society, Pantera, Candlemass, Carcass)

Basically I'm looking for power metal, heavy metal, doom metal and maybe some folk/pagan/whateverthehellyouwannacallit metal.

Help! (please),

Cheers,
Josh

EDIT: Looks like a few people got confused, I don't want ALL of those things in one band, they're just some of the elements I like.

Hi Vindy, I used to love SOAD back in their Toxicity days, never really liked any of their music since then.

Metal Church (first album, self titled)
Savatage (sirens, power of the night, hall of the mountain king)
Queensryche (4 track ep, operation mindcrime, warning)

Fates Warning. They sometimes use keyboards, they have clean vocals, and I guess their riffs can have some chunk to them. I'll say try the albums Perfect Symmetry and Inside Out. They are currently my favorites.

Nightwish! They are incredible. I'm in a Nightwish tribute band and you can hear some of their music on our MySpace page: www.myspace.com/amaranthrocks

Their official page is: http://www.myspace.com/nightwish

I'm really into Tarot right now : http://www.myspace.com/tarot

I also recommend Within Temptation: http://www.myspace.com/withintemptation

And also After Forever : http://www.myspace.com/afterforever

And Children of Bodom : http://www.myspace.com/childrenofbodom

Also, you really should check out Firewind. They are amazing. http://www.myspace.com/firewind

HIM, System of a Down, Dope and Disturbed are nowhere near metal. It's laughable to even say they are. Anyhow

Even though you listed 5 kickass bands, I really don't think those are what he's after But if you're openminded, definitely check all 5 out, some unforgettable music in those bands.

I love jesu and isis for moody metal. For fast, riff-happy metal, I don't think it gets any better than Killswitch Engage. No keys, and the vocals may be a bit more rough than you're looking for, but maaaaan are they heavy (while still being catchy and listenable).
