keep playing..even when it hurts...
you might be playing way harder at your gig/rehearsal than you do at home, turn up and play a little lighter..

I guess everyone's skin is different. I mean I have been playing for about 10 years and only really started getting hard callouses when I started slapping on steels. Theres alot of different factots, sweat, strings, how hard you dig in etc.

My suggestion would be to play steels if you are using nickels, also try and play everyday. Hard question lol

That's "callus" by the way. "Callous" means something rather different.

LOL.

+1 with Ridgey up there...I notice that when I play outside especially, I dig in more than normal and the fingers are a bit tender the next day...turn up and don't grind those finger tips as much...maybe .

i little trick i did to build mine up when i started playing was play till my fingers hurt then soak them in salt water and hot as you can stand it and let them dry. it worked pretty good for me.
